INVICTUS FREE SCHOOL

PROPOSAL FOR A NEW SECONDARY SCHOOL IN COSELEY

News update

Friday 10th May 2019

Dear Community,

As I am sure you are aware earlier in the year we submitted an application to open an ‘Invictus Free School’ on the former Coseley High School sight. Our vision was to allow 11-16 years in North Dudley to have access to an innovative, aspirational and values driven education.

With the backing of the other Invictus schools within the Multi Academy Trust we felt this project could be hugely beneficial for students in North Dudley and the wider community.

This morning we have received the unfortunate and frustrating news that on this occasion our application has been unsuccessful. This decision has been made by the Department For Education. Due to budget constraints and limited funding the Department For Education stated they could not take our application further.

We did receive feedback that we will digest and analyse before deciding our next steps. We would like to thank our community and the people of North Dudley for your support during this process, your words of encouragement and survey response was a huge strength in our application and we greatly appreciate it.

The Free Schools Directorate did thank us for the hard work, commitment and dedication shown by our team in submitting our application, we are proud of our team members that dedicated so many hours to this cause.

Over the last 4 years Invictus Education Trust has grown and strengthened, although bitterly disappointed we have the capability to absorb this setback and continue to move forwards. We now have a family of schools that almost span the length of the Black Country and South Staffs with capacity to grow further.

For more information on our Trust, to take a look at one of our schools or if you have any questions please visit our website.

Kind Regards,

Mr T Bowles                           Christiana Papadopoullos

At the moment the bid is still sitting with the DfE and we are waiting to see if we are invited to London to discuss our application. They have extended the deadline for notification until the end of March. Its a waiting game for now but as soon as we know we will let everyone know.
